10 Ways to Create a Happy Closet

by SP on May 26th, 2006

A young boy peeks through clothes hanging in a closet

There is nothing worse than opening a closet full of clothes and finding that you nothing to wear. I still remember days when I spent more time scrubbing the grass stains out of knees, that I didn’t even think about my own wardrobe.

1. Look at the state of your closet. Decide on what needs doing.

2. Stock up on hangers. No putting two items on one hanger. I have “lost” so many items that way.

3. Sort into categories: what you wear all of the time, items you don’t like, stained items, needs mending and what doesn’t fit.

4. The items you like, put back into closet.

5. The items you don’t like, wash, iron and give to Goodwill.

6. The items that are stained… have them cleaned. You can do it yourself or have them sent out.

7. Mend what needs mending. How long will you let that blouse sit in your closet minus one button? Damn… I haven’t learned any lessons it seems. I still have blouses like that. But it is blogging that is taking up my time now , not the kids.

8. If it doesn’t fit, get rid of it now. It’s still not going to fit next week. Can’t believe how long I hoped for a miracle!

9. Go back to closet and put all blouses, skirts and trousers together. You need to see exactly what and how many you have.

10. Clean bottom of closet. Dust has an awful way of accumulating down there!

Now don’t you feel better!!
