Weary Parent: Parenting Tweens & Teens

13 Popular Halloween Costumes for Tweens

by char on October 11th, 2007

Halloween is right around the corner and I have been taking an informal poll from the kids I teach at gymnastics, my daughter’s classmates on the field trip, my son and his friends - basically every tween I know. I asked them all what they wanted to be for Halloween, and characters from this years popular movies topped the list.

Great list - lots of cute ideas. I guess High School Musical is a big deal with tweens huh?

    Cathy - that’s funny!

Randa - just you wait until yours gets older! High School Musical is beyond a big deal to every tween girl I know. Most of the boys like it, too, but they just don’t admit it as much.

I don’t even think we HAVE a plan this year, though our girl wants us to do a Star Wars theme. (GAG!)

My kids aren’t tweens, but my daughter is going to be Uniqua from The Backyardigans and my son is going to be Spiderman. Some of those costumes had me laughing.

Yep, my daughter’s going as a highschool muscial cheerleader. Last year it was Hannah Montana. My 8 year old is thinking he’s too old for dressing up and my 3 year old wants to be a carrot. Sounds like it’s going to be a fun Halloween!

I love this post Char! Great job.

My 11 yo daughter would love that pirate costume, but she was a pirate last year, and she never likes to repeat them. This year she wants to be a soldier. I think I’m just going to go to an army surplus store and get her a small adult uniform. Might be cheaper and better quality than actually getting a costume.

She loves Hannah Montanna, but I don’t know… if you dress like her, don’t you just look like a girl in a skirt and a blonde wig? Also, High School Musical is pretty huge with the tweeners, but I think it’s one of those things that was SO BIG it eventually became kinda lame (ie, New Kids On The Block… am I dating myself?), because my daughter used to obsess over it and now she kind of snubs it like it is SO yesterday’s news. LOL

Interesting list of costumes. I was surprised to see that only one of them is really gory. Perhaps gross costumes are out of vogue?

The girls will wear tutu’s from PrissyPoof’s this year, I’ll go as a witch, not sure on Little A or SoccerBoy. Hmm, maybe he should be a soccerboy. :) Normally we are are related in costumes, Peterpan once, fairies and warlocks another year, etc.

I think my oldest wants to be a zomie, his first year to actually be something scarey.
My middle son wants to be a power ranger and the 3 year old stated he only wants to be himself.

My 11yo daughter always goes for the slightly goth Halloween look - she loves to put a colored stripe in her hair! My 8yo son decided he is going to design his own costume. This should be interesting….

Those are some creative costumes! My son is only 3 but I am glad there are some not-so-skimpy options out there for teen girls. This is a good way to express some personality!

The High School Musical costumes look fun but I really like the Lord of the Rings costume. My baby is so little so he’s going to be something cutesy…Tigger!

I don’t have kids, but a big group of the tweens I know are going as pirates. We tried making a papier mache parrot, but it didn’t turn out so well.

When people ask my little one what her name is she always responds with “Princess Fiona” because she gets a kick out of that AND I think she likes the reaction that folks get. You see, her name happens to be Fiona. We may have to dress her up as Princess Fiona this year just because she loves it so much!! ;)

Im a 13 year old and last year I was Hannah Montana for Halloween. Disney for some reason makes the hannah montana costumes in small sizes but the High school musical are bigger sizes. Last year when i was Hannah montana, i went to Macy’s and got an Hannah Montana outfit and bought a wig since the hannah costumes are too small. This year im being Sharpay. I could fit in to the 12-14 sharpay golf outfit which is a pink and green dress which is very cute. My friends are being Gabriella and hannah montana so were all disney stars this year. A lot of people think Hannah Montana and High School Musical is only for little kids. Sure little kids love them but the characters are high schoolers so me being and 8th grader, I relate to them more than 4th graders do.
