Birthday Parties - Boys vs. Girls

by char on June 25th, 2007

Birthday CakeWe have made it past the first half of the year which means it’s birthday party time here! I have a child with a July birthday, a September birthday, and a December birthday. When my son was little, he wanted a Thomas the Tank Engine cake and party. My daughter wanted Dora and my other daughter wanted princesses.

As they grow older, some things never change - the girls are thinking of their birthday plans in terms of “themes.” But my son is no longer concerned about the theme, he thinks of his birthday plans in terms of “activities.”

Here are some “themes” that the girls have expressed interest in:

  • Spa Party
  • American Girl Mystery Party
  • Going to the Dogs
  • TV/Movie Star Party
  • Beach Party

The “activities” my son wants to do include:

  • Go to the movies
  • Play putt putt
  • Have a swimming party
  • Just have friends over to play

Have you had the same experience? What are the popular birthday ideas in your house?

These are great ideas! Last year we did a sleepover at an Embassy Suites with my daughter (they actually had a birthday party package that included pizza and a movie). The kids had great fun in the pool and in their own part of the suite. Best of all, no clean up afterwards!!!

Being the mom of boys and not having the girl around until she was older, I can only offer up what we’ve done before….

We have a local skating rink that hosts parties. That’s always a big deal!

They’ve had bowling parties before too.

Once we went to an indoor water park with their friends that was a big hit!

I’m like Laura. I love not having the clean up after the party is over :)

It’s birthday season here too. Both of my kid’s birthdays are in July. Then my husband and dad’s are in August. Then my brother’s and mine are in September. My mom is the odd one with a January birthday. It’s time to shuck out some money.

Since my kids are little, I am doing a joint birthday party with Dora and Diego theme. My plan is to spend less than $75. I’ll probably write a post about the frugal party. :)

    Karen,

    You should try this link:http://www.moneytowers.com/2007/children/birthday-parties-on-a-budget/
I’m trying to keep to a budget on my daughter’s birthday too as I haven’t got that much money to spare and the article has some good adivce on keeping birthday party costs down. I particularly like the party bag idea because it’s so funky and personal whilst also being really thrifty!

My Daughter is turning 14 on August 19 and I have no clue what kind of birthday party to throw her. I need something that would be perfect for her. She loves Disney, Rap, American Idol, and things like that, but I want something more than that.

for a teen party or soeone who like to dance you can do a coed or just girls and have the community center around you rented out its usually 5$ an hour and play an ipod and have a dance party maybe have a snack table
