Camp Wear Parent Crafts: Make Your Own Teepees and Pyramids
As part of Time Travel Week at Camp Weary Parent, send the kids back in time with our crafts. We have instructions to build a small or large teepee, plus a few ideas for building Egyptian pyramids.
TEEPEES:
Supplies you need:
- 3 sticks about the same length
- A rubberband
- A brown paper bag
- Tape
- Scissors
- Markers, colored pencils or paints
What you need to do:
- Gather the sticks together. Place the rubberband around them about an inch from the top. Spread the sticks out so it looks like the framework of a teepee (a cone shape).
- Using the bundled sticks, trace a triangle pattern on to the brown paper bag. Cut it out.
- Then use it to create a trapezoid (three connecting triangles) like the following figure. Cut out the trapezoid. Cut out a small door as well.
- Color the trapezoid as you wish.
- Wrap it around the sticks to create the teepee. Apply tape to each stick to hold the paper in place.
For true adventures, build a backyard teepee and spend the night outdoors like the Indians.
PYRAMIDS
Challenge the kids to think like Egyptians. How did they create such amazing structures with out modern machinery? Ask the kids what materials that you have around the house could be used for building pyramids?
- Instructions for making a pyramid using straws and kraft paper.
- Make a sugar cube pyramid.
- This pyramid pattern is interesting but may be better for younger kids.
- And a slightly different variation of a pyramid related craft - pyramid pictures.
