Camp Weary Parent - Birds of a Feather

by char on June 18th, 2008

Birds of a feather, flock together! Our activities today will focus on birds and especially since it is a beautiful day outside (at least it is here).

Projects

There are so many bird related projects you and the kids can easily do. Pick one or two and get to know the birds in your neck of the woods.

  • Photography -  use a digital camera or a disposable one and let the kids take pictures of birds they see, their nests, bird houses, feeders, etc. Challenge them to take unusual shots and create a gallery when you are done.
  • Make a bird feeder - there are so many different ways to make a bird feed for your feathered friends. Here are a few of my favorites - an easy bird feeder at Kaboose’s Kids Bird Feeder, for more advanced/older kids DIY Network has instructions for a suet bird feeder.
  • Build a bird house - from the basic to the fancy - you can build birdhouses out of just about anything! Here are instructions for a milk carton birdhouse, a paper birdhouse, a wooden birdhouse (for advanced builders), or how about a gourd birdhouse?
