Camp Weary Parent Day 2 - Start a Journal

by char on June 5th, 2008

Camp Weary ParentWelcome to Day 2 of Camp Weary Parent! Since we are going to have a fabulous summer full of adventure, learning and fun, we need to capture it. Our activity for today is to start a scrapbook and/or journal.

Traditional Scrapbook and/or Journal

Take a field trip to your local craft store, Target or Walmart and pick out a some basic supplies for capturing the summer. You can find a variety of Scrapbook Kits of all price ranges or you can make your own using a combination of a 3 ring binder, clear plastic sheet protectors, fun pre-printed papers and leftover craft supplies from the school year.

If you are looking for creative ideas, check out A Creative Journal, The Mad Cropper or Printables4Scrapbooking.

Online Scrapbook and/or Journal

If your kids are tech savvy (and you are, too) - take the activity online. There are so many options for online journaling and photo sharing that is certain to be one that fits your needs. Ideas include:

  • Scrapblog - collect your photos, video clips and other media into a custom scrapbook you can share with friends, family or the world.
  • Flickr, Picasa, Photobucket - Make your own photo album online. These services make it easy to upload, modify and organize your photos whether you want to keep them private or share them with the world.
  • Create a blog - use Blogger to set up a free and easy to use blog for your kids to chronicle their adventures, projects, photos and favorite multimedia for the summer. I recommend you pick a non-descript name for the blog, set the comment moderation to require your approval (or disable them altogether), and set some ground rules for your child on what they can and cannot post. My kids will be using blogging as their creative outlet this summer (Bricks & Bots and Purrfect Polkadot).

Don’t forget - we want your ideas, project reports and pictures from Camp Weary Parent this summer! Feel free to save the Camp Weary Parent logo at the top of this post to your computer (right click and save as) and place it on your sidebar or display it in your Camp Weary Parent posts. We’d love a link back, too (if you don’t mind).

Don’t miss any of the fun - visit the Camp Weary Parent page for a complete listing of all the activities.
