Choosing a Pillow

by SP on June 9th, 2006

Featherless Hypoallergenic Pillow

As with beds and mattresses, most people keep their pillows far too long. Most pillows should be replaced every couple of years - cheaper ones will need replacing more frequently. You know it’s time to buy a new pillow if the old one no longer has any “bounce”. Fold it in half then see what happens. Does it jump back into shape quickly? Or does it return to shape gradually and reluctantly - if at all?

I didn’t know about the bounce test, but I do know that if my neck begins to ache on a daily basis, it can usually be traced back to my pillow. You also have to know if you need a firm or a soft pillow! So much to know about but us “weary parents” have to take our rest when we can squeeze it in!

My favorite pillow is a buckwheat pillow. It’s firm but shifts to fit your head and stays cool.

I tried one of those and while I really liked it, it took a while to get used to the noise. Did you notice… or is it just me??

It is a bit rustly but I got used to it pretty easily. When my son was born, though, I didn’t like to use it because even the slightest noises woke him up. Can you imagine how sensitive he is?!
