Dance Dance Revolution Goes To School
I’d bet that when Dance Dance Revolution makers Konami launched their arcade version of the electronic dance game, they didn’t expect it to become a fitness tool that schools would be using to get kids up and moving.
I was just reading at BoingBoing that the state of West Virginia is putting DDR into every school in the state in an effort to combat rising obesity rates. The combination of familiar music and high tech fun gets kids moving and can lead to healthier hearts and weight loss. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Wii games included next.
If you or your kids have not yet tried DDR, I highly recommend starting with Dance Dance Revolution Extreme 2. Extreme 2 has a beginner level in Free Play mode that is easy to get started with. Tunes like Pump Up the Volume and Living LaVida Loca are easy to get the hang of and I can tell you, you will work up a sweat. I like the Dance Master mode for working out. I set the timer for 30 minutes and see how many levels I can get through and unlock new songs along the way.
