I Voted - Did You?
It is Election Day in the United States, and while we are not electing a President this year, many state and local government positions are up for grabs.
Why should you take time out of your busy day today and stand in lines at a polling place just to cast your vote for a County Treasurer or cast your opinion on a bond referendum? Why? Because it is your right and privilege if you are an American citizen.
And, you are setting a good example for your children! Take your kids to the polls and explain to them how the process works. Explain to your kids that if you don’t take the time to vote, then you really can’t complain about the decisions the elected officials make. Explain to your kids that it is their civic duty. Show them that you take your civic responsibility seriously and that you want to be an active part of your society.
Even my 5 year old understood the whole premise of the election after just a few minutes of explanation. She wanted to know who I was voting for and why there was a space for “Write In”. And she was so happy to get her own “I Voted” sticker for being a part of the process today.

I’m ashamed to say that I didn’t vote. Our family took a last minute trip to Florida and on our way back home we stopped in Georgia to eat. I saw some people standing by the road holding election signs. It was then that I realized I missed out.
