Weary Parent: Parenting Tweens & Teens

KCA2007 - Slime, screams and silliness

by char on March 31st, 2007

Justin Timberlake arrived via blimp on tonight’s Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Awards to an audience of screaming, silly tweens just waiting to get slimed. The opening number was pretty cheesy - JT was singing about how he was too good to be slimed as Jackie Chan, Chris Tucker, and Mandy Moore were slimed. Of course, JT was slimed in the end.

The first category was favorite actress, which was won by the adorable Dakota Fanning who played in Charlotte’s Web. I love the blimp trophies. The Black Eyed Peas won for music.

So, I am sitting here watching this with my kids. The thing they are most excited about seeing is the slime jump.

Back in a few minutes…

Update: I was planning on blogging all the way through the show, but I kind of lost interest. The kids thought parts of the show were funny - 5th grade boy kind of funny.  You know, pulling the award winners name out of an oversized nose, and all.

Did you watch it? What did you think? Next year, I’ll pass.

I didn’t watch the show, but saw a few parts here and there. Maybe some might consider me too conservative, but it does bother me that Mandy Moore (and some others I’m sure) were wearing such revealing clothing. And then it also concerned me when I saw Adam Sandler was nominated and won and they showed clips from the movie “Click”, a movie that is rated PG-13. I have to wonder why they are showing clips from a movie that has been rated for people 13 years and older at a Kids’ Choice Awards . . . a movie that has many rude comments and quite a bit of sexual content. I’ll pass too.

Karen - I was really disappointed too. Many of the celebs that were presenting were more grown up and just not real good role models.

Maybe next year they’ll have Paris Hilton and Britney Spears presenting. Geez!
