Movie Night - Bridge to Terabithia
With the kids being home the past three days due to weather, all the moms I know were getting a little stir crazy. According to one of my good friends, half the county was at the movie theaters this afternoon checking out the new movie, Bridge to Terabithia. We weren’t there because I’m too cheap to plunk down $25+ for myself and three kids to go to the movies (we own just about all the good DVDs though), plus I am not sure the movie is appropriate for my youngest.
The movie is based on the 1978 Newberry Award winning book by Katherine Paterson. The main character, Jesse and his friend Leslie, create a magical kingdom in the forest where they reign as king and queen. My son has been reading the book - along with most of his friends, and he does like it. Then again, he has yet to meet a book he doesn’t like. So I digress.
Once the movie was over, I checked in with my buddy to get her reviews. From a mother’s perspective, she said it was a sad, but beautiful movie and she cried repeatedly throughout the movie. It is not the next Narnia, like the trailers would lead you to believe. Her 11 year old daughter has read the book and said the movie has a slightly different ending, which my friend was not happy about. Her daughter wasn’t bothered by it at all though.
I asked her how her youngest (8 year old boy) liked it and she said he was okay with it, but didn’t really understand most of it. It just moved too slowly for his liking.
I would love to get more input from you, my readers. Should we spend the money and see this one in theaters? Is it worth seeing on the big screen? Have you seen it? What did you think? If you write a review of it, post it on your blog, leave me a comment and I’ll link to it.
Here are the reviews I have found so far:

THE MOVIE WAS FINE UNTIL THEY SLAMED CHRISTIANITY AND THE SACRIFICE OF CHRIST ON THE CROSS. THEY MADE CHURCH LOOK DARK. THEY CLAIMED THAT YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A CHRISTIAN TO GO TO HEAVEN. THAT MEANS THAT CHRIST’S SACRIFICE WAS IN VAIN. THEY WANT YOU TO “KEEP YOUR MIND WIDE OPEN” PLEASE SEE THE MOVIE ON YOUR OWN WITHOUT YOUR KIDS SO YOU KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT. I YOU HAVE CHRISTIAN BELIEFS THIS MOVIW WILL MAKE YOU MAD. I SADLY WATCHED IT WITH MY 7 YEAR OLD
