Weary Parent: Parenting Tweens & Teens

Music and Your Teen

by Marian on April 21st, 2005

This study shows that music and especially singing can boost the immune system. Music is great therapy for everyone. If you check at most high schools you will find that many of the top performing students are in band, orchestra or choir. Music education is thought to enhance math skills. Additionally these extracurricular activities are fun and often motivate students to keep grades up in order to participate. They also keep teens busy and out of trouble. Ask any high school vice principal how often he sees students who are in band for discipline problems? I’ll wager that the answer is not very often.
