“I thought being the mother of a teenager was going to be sheer hell. Now that I’m here, however (my daughter, Sophie, is sweet 16), I can report that, yes, it is hard, but not in the ways that I had feared.
Just when she’s about to push me past the brink of my admittedly shallow reserve of patience, she’ll surprise me with a little drawing or a photo that she knows will amuse me, or simply throw her five-foot-nine frame into my lap. Surprisingly, the hard part about being a parent of a teenager isn’t her as much as it is me.”
No, this isn’t my daughter, but Sophie reminds me a lot of Britt, especialy the part about the funny little pictures. For years now, Britt hasn’t missed a birthday or a Mother’s Day, when she didn’t MAKE me her card from scratch… and she does the same for her father. Yes, Britt is fabulous, but I’m going to leave it at that. If I gush too much, she’s just going to get a big head!
It’s a funny thing about those toddlers that depend so much on you for absolutely everything. There is going to come a day when that toddler will suddenly turn into your best friend. Definitely didn’t see that one coming!

I have to agree! I must admit I don’t understand when some parents constantly complain about their teen as my 17yo son can put a smile on my face as nothing else can. Sure we have our differences and minor arguments but overall he is a great kid and I am very proud to be his mother. We seem to have found a mutual respect that some parents may never have with their kids, and for that I am grateful.
