SOS: Stressed Out Student’s Guide To Handling Peer Pressure Book for Teens
Over the weekend I read SOS: Stressed Out Student’s Guide to Handling Peer Pressure. As soon as I was finished I handed it to my 16-year-old with instructions “read this tonight.” This is a perfect book for the tween or teen in your life. And it’s small enough to make a great stocking stuffer.
Each chapter is just a couple of pages long and provides information and facts, quotes from famous people and helpful tips from Lisa Medoff, PhD, Stanford professor and child and adolescent psychologist. It’s a quick read. The information is broken down in to small bits ideal for the short attention span of many of our teens. And it’s in terms terms teens use and understand.
The book offers tweens and teens help in navigating through all of the peer pressure situations they come in contact with on a daily basis. It touches on everything including drinking, smoking, drugs, sex, cheating, stealing, gossip, cliques and thinking for yourself. But it doesn’t preach to kids. Instead it asks teens to step up and believe in themselves and listen to their inner voice to make good decisions.
Teens feel pressure every day from parents, teachers, friends, people they wish were their friends and more. They need some tips on how to deal with that pressure. They need to know the facts. And they need to be confident in themselves.
