The Dynamics of Three Kids

by char on June 19th, 2007

You have heard of two’s company, three’s a crowd, right? What do you do when that applies to your own children? We are in the second week of summer vacation and I am really noticing that if any one of my kids is at a friend’s house, at camp, at Grandma’s or even just outside with Dad, the dynamic of the house changes.

My son went to spend some time at my parent’s farm this week. It was really strange without him home, but it was really easy to do totally girly things like shopping with the girls and listening to Hannah Montana.

When my middle daughter goes to a friend’s house it is so quiet! My oldest (son) and youngest (daughter) can play and play all day without single fight. They are both creative, imaginative, and think way outside the box.

Today my youngest went to day camp at her old preschool. I can not remember the last time I just had the two older kids home with me. It was fun - in its own way. There was no fighting. They didn’t play together, but they got along and it was a completely different dynamic. They could have friends over without little sister interfering.

So how do playdates and activities change up the dynamics in your house? Any tips for keeping the peace with three?
