The Last Book Report
Wishful thinking! Part of our weekend was consumed by the last book report of the school year for my 5th grader. In addition to the monthly book report summary, this time they had to include something 3-D with their report.
My son really likes Eragon and its follow on Eldest by Christopher Paolini, so he decided to make a 3-D map of to go along with the summary. Normally my son rushes through these types of projects, but the 3-D map construction was fun for him and he did a nice job. Personally, I love the little flags telling us the different areas. And the miniature dragon Saphira is cute, too.

The author, Christopher Paolini, was only 17 when he published Eragon in 2003 - that is pretty amazing if you ask me! He graduated from high school at 15 - which is no small feat either.
Story overview (from Amazon):
Eragon, a young farm boy, finds a marvelous blue stone in a mystical mountain place. Before he can trade it for food to get his family through the hard winter, it hatches a beautiful sapphire-blue dragon, a race thought to be extinct. Eragon bonds with the dragon, and when his family is killed by the marauding Ra’zac, he discovers that he is the last of the Dragon Riders, fated to play a decisive part in the coming war between the human but hidden Varden, dwarves, elves, the diabolical Shades and their neanderthal Urgalls, all pitted against and allied with each other and the evil King Galbatorix. Eragon and his dragon Saphira set out to find their role, growing in magic power and understanding of the complex political situation as they endure perilous travels and sudden battles, dire wounds, capture and escape.
We highly recommend this series for summer reading - especially for boys ages 10 and up. With about 65 different characters and place names in the story, you might need to take notes or read this one more than once to keep track of it all.
