Valentine’s Day Traditions
With Valentine’s Day less than a day away it’s been a flurry of Valentine’s Day cards, class list and suckers at our house the last few days. This evening I took photos of the kids make hearts with their hands. My intent is to post the best photo on my blog tomorrow for Love Thursday. As I was taking the photo I thought “this would make a great Valentine’s Day tradition.”
Do you have any Valentine’s Day traditions that you are your family takes part in each year? Are they traditions you passed on to your kids? Or are they traditions you started with your kids?
When I was a little girl my stepmom and Dad always gave me a card and some candy hearts for Valentine’s Day. I have always had a big sweet tooth so I loved my candy hearts. Now my husband usually buys me some sweet Valentine candy.
I have some friends who buy their kids gifts for Valentine’s Day. They may give them books or a new outfit or maybe a new game for their Gameboy.
Last year I made heart pancakes for the kids to eat for breakfast on Valentine’s Day morning. I’m hoping to make that one of our family tradition for years to come. But I’m still looking for more ideas. What do you do with your teens on Valentine’s Day?

I always give my 11 yo daughter something, but what it is varies. This year she got a bracelet, some candy and a Betty and Veronica comic book. My parents gave her a Pirates of the Carribean Wii game, which I thought was kind of strange, but whatever works! My daughter made me a card and 2 coupons, one that says she’ll help me with walking the dog and the other says she’ll help me cook for 2 weeks. We’ll see if it really happens!

We always have a fancy dinner at home that Dad cooks (He’s a great cook but NEVER helps in the kitchen)! With sparkling cider and candles and fine china. Then my kids get a treasure hunt around the house to find their gift - usually something small but it’s fun! But they are 13 and 15 and these kinds of things are not as much fun anymore - but I want them to always remember that Mom loved them and tried to keep it fun so we keep doing it!
