Weary Parent: Parenting Tweens & Teens

Weary Parent, The Ultimate Blog Party and a Giveaway Too

by char on March 11th, 2008

Ultimate Blog Party 2008UPDATE!! Congratulations to our winner Suzanne. We hope you enjoy your basket!!

Welcome to Weary Parent and the Ultimate Blog Party! Christine and I are excited to be part of this great event hosted by 5 Minutes for Mom and to have a chance to meet some of the other great mommy bloggers.

First a bit about us! Weary Parent is a one of the blogs in B5Media’s Lifestyles Channel. The site is authored by Char (mom to 3 ages 6-11) and Christine (mom to 5 ages 5-16). We have done diapers, potty training and preschool. Our kids are now challenging us with a whole new set of issues and stages - from friendship dramas, budding romances, learning to drive, braces, middle school and high school, and so much more. As Gayla said so succinctly:

Char has a grip on the sensible parenting and Christine makes us all want to make sure we do. Sometimes I visit Weary Parent so that I don’t feel so alone in this Parenting Gone Wild kinda world.

We love to hear from our readers and welcome any requests for discussion topics!

Now for the fun stuff!! We are hosting another fabulous giveaway to help one lucky Mom get ready for spring, sponsored by Gilden Tree! Gilden Tree’s Two-Sided Footscrubber was featured in Oprah’s “O” magazine this month in her “best” section - as the best way for getting your feet ready for spring sandals.

Gilden Tree Gift Set

We are giving away that awesome Footscrubber as part of Foot and Body Essentials Gift Basket (see above). A veritable treasure trove of all-natural goodies for your feet and body! This set includes our classic terra-cotta Footscruber®, 8 oz. of Revitalizing Foot Soak Crystals, Nourishing foot Cream, Soothing Hand & Body Lotion, Extremely Gentle Cleansing Gel and a 4 oz. jar of 95% Shea Butter Balm. All are carefully packed in a lovely, reusable pandan box with lid.

How do you enter? It’s simple. Just leave us a comment on this post telling us why you are a “weary parent” and you are entered. You can also stop in at Gilden Tree’s site and get a free sample of one of their amazing lotions too!

The draw for this particular giveaway will be held at Weary Parent and to enter you have to comment on this post - in other words, this giveaway is not listed in the Ultimate Blog Party giveaway. Entries will close midnight Monday, March 17, 2008.

Happy blog hopping and we hope to see you here again soon!

Why am I a weary parent? Because I have five children, two aging parents and a husband and they need me to be everywhere at all times. In May I will have a child graduating from high school and a child graduating Kindergarten in the same week. In three years I will repeat that same graduation scenario. While the children and my husband come and go from clubs, classes and camps, the only nights I’ve spent away from home in the past several years were in the hospital when I gave birth. I am more than weary. I am Madeline Kahn in Blazing Saddles “tah-red” without her busy sex life. The only thing I want more than a night away is a night alone with my husband. I’d settle for help with my weary feet.

Why am I a weary parenting deserving of this prize? Because I’m a full time blogger/work at home mom taking care of a kid with strep, an ear infection and a lovely rash while managing to house break a puppy and even get some work done, though I’m behind in my deadlines thanks to doctor’s visits.

I should also mention because I’m always running in and out of the house to walk puppies, meet the school bus or go back and forth to playdates my feet are a calloused mess. No really. I can send pictures, it’s that bad.

Oh and by the way, I’m supposed to be helping out at the basket auction and baking cupcakes for the kindergarten recital, neither of which I’ll probably attend because of the aforementioned illness issue.

Most of all, I love what I do despite the cracked feet, missed deadlines and cupcake baking and wouldn’t trade it for a million dollars.

    Well maybe a million dollars….

I am always weary because I have a hard time finding a balance. Am I doing enough? Am I doing too much? Should my daughter really be in preschool? Should my son be in preschool? I am always questioning myself. I know I need to trust that everything will be alright. Easier said than done though.

I am weary because I wake up too early, stay up too late, and try to get too much done in the hours between :) *Thanks* for the giveaway!

Hi! Thanks for letting us join in the party!

I am a weary parent because my husband works 10 hour days, plus half hour lunch and 45 minutes there and back so basically during the week I’m a single parent. My family lives an hour away and I just recently moved to our town so no one to help. So, I only have one child but, whew, it’s exhausting being the only entertainment for a 2 year old.

I love my job, but it’s definitely qualifies me as a weary parent and in need of a foot scrub!!

    Char,
You know I am weary. My kids have something to do with that but I think I am mostly weary because I spend too much time a-bloggin’!

Why am I weary? Where do I begin?! Work full-time, come home to do my homework for college, then help my K-daughter do her homework. Sometimes I clean, when I can fit it in! Can’t forget about my 3 YO daughter! Our lifestyle is the definition of madness!

  • jewelgirl

I am a weary parent because my tween has
a boyfriend. (self explanatory - worry - lack
of sleep!) I’ve rarely had an outside baby/child sitter. And I have an aging mother who is feisty
and sometimes hard to take care of. Nuf said!
I just found this blog, yesterday. I found some great stuff to read. Thank you!

Like most single parents, I try to do everything all the time! :) Work, cook, clean, care for the pets AND spend time with the kids! It can be exhausting work :)

Thanks for the great contest! :D

Ah, I never imagined I would be a weary parent, but having a 7 month old son who is in constant need of attention, and doesn’t nap, makes me an incredibly weary parent!

Why I am a weary parent can take all night. A quick review: single parent of 2, son has special needs, daughter is gifted and has health problems, foster mom to 1, foster daughter has special needs, low income, no family for support/to help us out, car is broke down (read my blog about that), no financial help from fathers (sperm donors is a better choice of words), my health problems — nerve damage, fibromyalgia. I think I’ve said enough to show I am a weary mom. Lol.

Why am I a weary parent? Unfortunately, there’s several reasons! The main one being the number of hours I spend on my job! As a parent, you want the very best for your family and children, but regrettably, that requires long hours at the office! Sometimes, it becomes difficult to manage the two! But I’m trying my best!

I am a stay at home mom, who is married to a Marine. He works, all the time, whether as a Marine, or at his second job, so pretty much 99% of the time, and parenting duties are mine. I don’t go out to do anything on my own, I have a grand total of /two/ friends here, and we moved here in May of last year. I barely ever see either of them. I don’t get breaks of my own to do things to de-stress, and am pretty much all the time right here at home. I have lost my identity as anything other than ‘mom’.

Just the words parent and weary go hand in hand I think. Too little time to fit everything into a day. I have been a mom for over 25 years and I think having teenagers is what really turns your hair gray and sets in those lovely deep wrinkles.

I am not as weary as I used to be, maybe since I have ‘retired’. Now all I have is 4 grandchildren to monitor, a wedding to plan, 4 dogs, 2 cats and a goat (the grandchildren take care of the horses). My main problem is that my body clock is so set from 40 years of employment that I can’t sleep past 5 a.m.!

    Weary - this last week….

    Mom has flu last Friday-Wednesday
DD2 has flu Wednesday - Friday
Dad has flu this Friday - Wednesday
DD1 has flu Wednsday (lucky her only 1 day)
DS1 has flu starting last night

Daily - to school at 7:30 and then 8 am for drop-off
Pick-ups at 11:30, 1:45 & 2:45, some days also going back from 1-1:45 for practice for VShow

Managing daily homework and house running, VShow Facilitator & House Manager, finishing Book Fair stuff this week too. Then work 8 hours each on Saturday and Sunday (my salvation really).

And with all of this I’m not unhappy, just tired this week. The flu is gone, but I still feel drained. Granted my house and laundry are screaming for attention.

Oh and I’m organizing a spring clean for our school’s auditorium of 515 seats. Just got reminded about that one, I almost forgot about it!

  • Ana

I have been a weary parent for 23 years now, mom of 4, 5 if you count my husband, he’s tmy biggest kid! Two 20 somethings, 2 teens, keeping up with them all is crazy! Between 16 yr old son and his girlfriend and their activities, to college daughter away from home on her own graduating in May from college plus my youngest daughter graduates from HS and works on weekends then my almost 21 yr old working daughter and her crazy work schedule hours! Plus I daily babysit a 6mo old 14 mo old and afterschool have a 7 yr old. And spring break is next week! Everyone nearly will be here next week!

Without trying to seem like a major sob story, I feel like a weary parent due to having had cancer in the past 2 years, and currently having CKD. With my personal health issues I’ve managed to start my own small business, shuttle two teen boys to school and numerous extra cirriculalr activities on top of trying to keep up with the normal everyday life events (housecleaning, cooking, getting everyone up and out, etc). By the time bed time rolls around, I find I’m out within seconds of my head hitting the pillow. My one saving grace is that my husband is gracious enough to rub my aching feet, so what a perfect prize win this would be.

I am an extremely weary parent!!!!!
With two daughters, 20 & 22, two grandchildren, both 6 months. (each daughter has a child). and the constant saying “But MA, you know what to do better than I do can’t you do it” or the “But MA” “I have to do my nails will you change the baby” which of course leaves “MA” to not only care for the house, feed, comfort, change, the babies ect… there is always one of my daughters who needs me for themselves. My only rest is from 12:00pm til 5:30am.

I’m a single, working mother; my daughter’s father just joined the Army and is in training on the opposite side of the country, so I no longer get any time off to have a social life. I work as a litigation paralegal, which is an intense, stressful job. So that I can pick my daughter up from school and spend good time with her, I frequently bring work home and stay up late doing that after she goes to sleep. I think I average about five hours of sleep a night. And because the parenting, work, and housework aren’t enough on their own, I help manage my boyfriend’s woodworking business and I’m trying to get my own at-home business/blog off the ground. I’m not just weary, I’m exhausted!

    I AM A WEARY PARENT

well, I have four daughters, 24,23,21 and 16. The 16 year old is going through a major “hate mom” phase and its just so frustrating and hurtful. Its very hard not to react, but I bite my tongue as reacting would be just fueling her fire. Its impossible to see the floor in her bedroom; masses of clean and dirty clothes all co-mingle there.

I have a mother who has Alzheimers, but doesn’t realize it. We have told her many times.

I have a father who will be completely deaf in a few years; he had a horrible operation when he was younger and is completely deaf in one ear and had 25% left in the other, but that has reduced even further.

One of my step daughter’s mom, committed suicide and my husband and I were the ones that found her. That happened when she was just 9yrs old and I’ve taken on her grief counselling and making sure that she is doing well.

I suffer from psoriatic arthritis, psoriasis, pernicious anemia, PTSD, OCD, chronic pain, fibromaligia, migraines, social phobia, oh I could just go on and on; but I’ve still managed to have three daughters leave the house happy!

(yes all of that is true btw)

    I AM A WEARY PARENT

    Why Am I Weary Parent?

I’m a stay-at-home-mom and taking care of my newborn and the entire house. I’m not complaining because I love what I’m doing despite the fact that I used to the fast life as a career woman. Everything changed when I got pregnant and gave birth.

But sometimes, doing everything alone with no help can be exhausting sometimes. I feel drained these days.

Well, I still have some ways to relax but still… :)

I’m a weary parent because I work full-time, go to school full-time, have a 2-year-old and a 1-year-old at home, and a husband who thinks he’s 9…not 39. As weary as I am, though, it’s also the happiest I’ve ever been!

Stay at home mom of three - my oldest is a pre-teen with mucho attitude these days that leaves me in tears a lot. My two youngest are my boys, one is in school, one is still at home with me. I get up every day at 4:30 am just to get some alone time. Oh, and my youngest still co-sleeps with me, I never get a break!!

Neat site and wonderful looking giveaway!

Why am I a Weary Parent…Oh let me COUNT the Ways!!

I am Mom to 3 amazing girls - 6, 5, and 19 months. The 6 yr old is a mega-diva, never-say-die Drama Queen and dealing with her day-in and day-out is just plain exhausting. The 5 yr old is my delight and joy but also my worry. She is my clone in her looks but ALL HERSELF in her personality. She is SO artsy-fartsy even at this age that she is off in la-la land often yet can create and daydream and dance like there is no tomorrow. The 19 month old just joined our family this past summer from China and has definitely given me a run for my money! If she wasn’t our last child, she would be our last child! She is an adorable energy-sucking, destructo-tron with Eveready Bunny
