Weekend Thoughts
With three kids in the house or by my side all week long, I am used to the constant talking, squabbling, and requests for my help with something. We have a schedule, and activities, and dinner time chats. When the weekend comes, things tend to change.
Nine times out of ten, someone has a friend or two over. That is fine - I love seeing my kids interact with their friends. And then there are times like this weekend where one the kids goes to a friends’ house.
Last night it was eerily calm here. It was nice and sad at the same time. My oldest child is a really low maintenance boy. He is very content playing video games, reading, watching TV or riding his bike - by his self. My youngest is a really creative, low maintenance girl. She is very content playing Barbies, dolls, watching big brother play his games or drawing - by herself. Without the high energy, instigating, middle daughter here, it was wierd. Really wierd.
The four of us were sitting watching TV. It was quiet. No one was fighting. No one was upside down. I asked who missed Miss M - and no one raised their hand - initially. Then everyone kind of said at the same time, well, a little bit. While we are all enjoying the different dynamic - we are all ready for her to come back from her friend’s house and wake this little sleepy house back up!
How about you? Does your family dynamic change when one child goes to play somewhere else?

Absolutely! My oldest is a high maintenace, high energy drama queen. Last week I was coming home from church with just my son. DD was riding home with daddy. It was so quiet in the car! I almost forgot my son was with me. I turned around, smiled at him, and told him what a sweet boy he was. Then when we got home, I grabbed my camera from the front seat and took a picture of my little man. So cute!
