What Did Your Kids Do Right This Week?
Last Friday I asked my readers to tell me what they did right as parents and I was really impressed with the feedback. So often the positive things we do go unnoticed but the world seems very quick to correct us when we make a mistake.
I am going to change it up a bit this week. I want to know what your child did right this past week (one of them or all of them). Leave us a comment and let us know, but be sure to take a minute or two out of your day and let your kids know that you are paying attention and that you appreciate the good things they do, too!!
I’ll start.
My oldest, Mr. Shy, was extremely patient with his youngest sister this week as she demanded his attention while playing Pokemon. Honestly, he has created a monster. Little Miss Girly Girl N is only 5 but can rattle off Pokemon characters in her sleep thanks to all the attentive coaching big brother has given her on her Nintendo DS. They play it together while waiting for middle sister, Miss M at gymnastics. Miss N was a little high maintenance this week and wanted Mr. Shy’s attention constantly. I know he will grow up to be a great Daddy based on the way he interacts with his sisters.
Miss M, the middle one, knew that the cleaning ladies were coming on Thursday and took some time Wednesday to straighten up her room so they could dust and vacuum it. She did this without being prompted - I think she is beginning to realize that having a clean room is a good thing. The week that she didn’t bother picking up her room they didn’t touch it and she was a bit bummed.
Miss N had a rough week. I think she is coming down with something because starting Monday with the whole bus drama, she was just whiny and teary all week. She does get a thumbs up for dealing with the bus driver’s rules. We talked about why the bus driver has assigned seating and how sitting next to someone new is a chance to make a new friend. By the end of the week, she got on the bus all smiles.
Take some time this weekend and let your kids know what they did right this week. You might have to really think about it, but it doesn’t have to be anything big - just be sincere. A little compliment can go a long way.

My 5 yo daughter got a great review at our first parent-teacher conference. Very bright, works hard, gets along with others and is a little popular, always can be counted on for a good answer, participates, and is helpful.
Hurray!
My baby Zack just brings joy with him everywhere we go.

My daughter got together with two other kids and corraled their grade’s guidance counselor to alert him that they knew a kid in their class who looked like she needed help, but wasn’t getting it.

Sounds like great accomplishments all around. This has been a popular activity two weeks in a row - maybe I need to make it a regular Friday activity.

My daughter did her homework every day without being told/nagged. And I have every reason to believe she’ll be bringing home a fabulous report card tomorrow. I’m very proud of her.

my teen saw that she was lacking on one of her class grades and she went in on her own to tutoring to try and make up what she was low on. I am so proud of her. She has been making some good decisions lately and she has done her own laundry and kept up on room cleaning. Way to go my Jessi !!!
