What’s Wrong With Biting My Nails
“Crunch, crunch, crunch. Do you bite your nails? Some kids and adults do this, especially when they’re feeling nervous. But it’s not a healthy habit. Here’s why:
Your fingernails have a couple of big jobs to do. They protect your fingertips and make it easier for you to pick up tiny things, like loose threads. They also come in handy when you have an itch that needs scratching.”
I also found some tips on stopping the habit. I think that it might all come down to wanting gorgeous nails and that is especially true of girls. But I was surprised to read that nail biting is even more popular with little boys. I wasn’t expecting that.
But it’s the germs that are beneath the nails that will really make you want to stop biting. When you think about it, it’s just plain gross. My advice… keep an emery board handy for those times that you are tempted to nibble. You can have the best of intensions, and then the minute you find a snag, you begin to nibble.
Yes, as a former nail biter, I still find myself nibbling on occasion. I really do need to replace my emery boards. If they are worn out, they won’t do their job!
